Tetrastatins are bioactive fragments (see also: cryptides) derived from the COL4A4 gene (collagen-4-alpha-4 chain). They have been shown to inhibit the proliferation and migration of human umbilical vein endothelial cells in vitro and are therefore thought to possess anti-angiogenic properties in vivo (Karagiannis and Popel, 2008). Note: the complete NC1 domain of collagen-4-alpha-4 is being referred to as Tetrastatin.
Tetrastatin-1 [LPVFSTLPFAYCNIHQVCHY] corresponds to residues 1514-1533 of the COL4A4 gene: COL4A4(1514-1533) [collagen-4-alpha-4(1514-1533)].
