[Texas blood group antigens]
The Texas blood group antigen is variant form of the human erythrocyte band 3 protein, which results from a point mutation in the critical transmembrane, anion transport domain (Pro to Leu substitution at position 868). This mutation causes an increased anion transport that is 2-3 time above normal (Kay et al, 1994). Kay et al (1994) have referred to this mutated protein as HTbd3 [high transport band-3].
In the nomenclature of CD antigens the protein has been given the designation CD233.
