VCC-1 is expressed in lung and skeletal muscle. Murine VCC-1 expression can be detected also in lung, thyroid, submaxillary gland, epididymis, and uterus tissues. 71 % of breast tumors show 3-24-fold upregulation of VCC-1 expression. Strong expression of the gene is observed in normal and transformed mammary gland ductal epithelial cells.
In vitro, human microvascular endothelial cells grown on fibronectin increase VCC-1 expression by almost 100-fold. The gene is overexpressed in the mouse angioma endothelial cell line PY4.1 after induction of tube formation, whereas quiescent and proliferating cells
