this term refers to cells in the early cleavage stages during the preimplantation embryonic development of a fertilised egg before development reaches the morula stage. Blastomeres are generally considered to be totipotent cells as an individual blastomere can develop into the entire organism in vivo (for overview see: Baker et al, 2018). The term ES-like cells [embryonic stem cell-like cells] may refer to these cells. Piotrowska-Nitsche et al (2005) have reported that four-cell stage mouse blastomeres already have different developmental properties. Boiani et al (2019) have reported that a viable two-cell embryo can already include one non-totipotent blastomere, suggesting that the question of the totipotency
