These bone marrow-derived cells are abundant in normal human and murine dermis and occupy the perivascular space, where they are closely associated with mast cells. They are a kind of dermal macrophages and are called also dermal dendritic histiocytes (see: dendritic cells) (Lenz et al, 1993; Nestle et al, 1993).
Dermal dendrocytes, called also cutaneous dendrocytes or dermal dendritic cells are bone marrow-derived spindle cells diffusely distributed within the dermis of normal human skin. They are clearly distinct from fibroblasts and Langerhans cells
