eryptosis

[suicidal erythrocyte death] this term refers to the programmed cell death of erythrocytes observed in ageing or damaged erythrocytes (Lang et al, 2006). This is in analogy to apoptosis, which does not apply because erythrocytes are devoid of nuclei and mitochondria). The term eryptotic death refers to the same phenomenon.

This kind of cell death is triggered by injury in resonse to oxidative stress, glucose depletion (Klarl et al, 2006), osmotic shock (Lang et al, 2006), and a variety of stressors such as exposure to vitamin K3 (Qadri et al, 2009), lipopeptides and bacterial cell wall components (Wang et al, 2008), amphotericin B (Mahmud et al, 2009), radiocontrast agents (Föller et al, 2009), Amyloid ... ... ... ... ...
