[gastrokines]
The term has been introduced by Martin et al (2003) to refer to a factor that maintains the integrity of the gastric mucosal epithelium.
The derivation of the term gastrokine (secreted by, or acting on, cell types found in the stomach) is similar to that of enterokine (secreted by, or acting on, cell types of the gastrointestinal tract) or adipokine (secreted by, or acting on, adipocytes).
For examples of gastrokines see: gastrokine-1, gastrokine-2, gastrokine-3.
Note that the terms gastrokine and gastrokine-1 are often used synonymously.
