insulin-related peptide-binding protein
abbr. IBP (a term with multiple meanings). This protein of 27 kDa is a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily. It is found in the conditioned medium of Spodoptera frugiperda insect cells (Sloth Andersen et al, 2000).
IBP binds human insulin and some of its variants, IGF-1 and IGF-2 with high affinity (see also: IGFBP, Insulin-like growth factor binding proteins). The protein inhibits insulin signaling through the insulin receptor.
The closest homolog of IBP is the essential Drosophila melanogaster gene product Imp-L2.
