[metamorphosis-regulated cell death] this term has been used to refer to programmed cell death occurring in insects during metamorphosis, where many larval neurons, for example a group of neurons expressing corazonin, are programmed for elimination at different phases of metamorphosis to establish an adult central and peripheral nervous system (see: Lee et al, 2019; for overview see also: Nicolson et al, 2015) Wang et al (2019) have reported a requirement for TGF-beta signaling mediated by a glia-produced ligand, Myoglianin, produced by glial cells, type-1 receptor Babo [Drosophila baboon] and Drosophila SMAD2.
