also: PGK1 [phosphoglycerate kinase 1] (approved gene symbol), and PGKA. The enzyme is being referred to also as 3-phosphoglycerokinase and has the designation EC2.7.2.3 in the systematic nomenclature of enzymes.

Phosphoglycerate kinase is known as a glycolytic enzyme that catalyzes the phosphorylation of 3-phospho-D-glycerate. The amino acid sequence of the human protein has been reported by Huang IY et al (1980). The human gene has been cloned and analysed by Michelson et al (1983, 1985).
