In the nomenclature of CD antigens this protein has been given the designation CD49b. This protein is a heterodimer consisting of the unique alpha chain termed VLA-2 [very late activation antigen 2] (GPIa) and a beta subunit common to other adhesion receptors, forming the glycoprotein complex GPIa/IIa on platelets.
