ribosomal protein S7
abbr.: RPS7, S7. This protein is a component of the 40S subunit of ribosomes (40S ribosomal protein S7) (Kenmochi et al, 1998; Vladimirov et al, 1996). The human cDNA has been cloned by Annilo et al (1995) who demonstrated also that human and rat RPS7 proteins are identical (for gene structure see also: Yoshihama et al, 2002).
Role as moonlighting protein
Apart from its role as a structural component of the 40S ribosome subunit, ribosomal protein S7 has other functions and thus can be regarded as a member of a growing group of proteins referred to as moonlighting proteins.
