24p3 (also: SV40-induced 24P3 protein) is a protein of unknown function that is expressed in confluent primary mouse kidney cell cultures arrested in the G0 phase of the cell cycle and infected with SV40 or Polyoma virus (Hraba-Renevey et al, 1989). Flower et al (1991) have identified 24p3 protein as a member of the lipocalin family of proteins. The protein is considered the mouse homolog of human Lipocalin-2, a multifunctional protein identified originally by Kjeldsen et al (1993) as a protein associated with the human neutrophil gelatinase MMP-9.
