[Activation-induced cell death] This term is being used to describe cell death occurring in immune cells after, and induced by, cell activation (Green et al, 2003). The processes involved essentially are those generally observed with apoptosis, i.e., AICD is a type of programmed cell death as opposed to accidental cell death generally referred to as necrosis.
