[CARD-inhibitor of NF-kappa-B-activating ligands] CARDINAL contains a caspase recruitment domain (CARD) and exhibits a high degree of homology to the C-terminus of DEFCAP.
The protein functions as a regulator of NF-kappa-B activation in the context of pro-inflammatory signals (Bouchier-Hayes et al, 2001). Unlike the majority of CARD proteins, CARDINAL does not promote cell death by apoptosis or activation of transcription factor NF-kappa-B.
