Cytokine receptor families

Following the cloning of a plethora of mammalian and non-mammalian cytokine receptors notable amino acid homologies and conservation of sequence motif characteristics have allowed these receptors to be grouped into a gene family and subfamilies. Based on details of their structural organization one generally distinguishes between Type 1 cytokine receptor family (class-1 cytokine receptor family) and Type 2 cytokine receptor family (class-2 cytokine receptor family).
