[Drosophila melanogaster APAF-1 Related Killer] DARK is encoded by gene CG6829 and encodes a Drosophila melanogaster homolog of mammalian APAF-1 and Caenorhabditis elegans CED4 cell-death proteins (Rodriguez et al, 1999). It has been isolated independently as Dapaf-1 and HAC-1. DARK contains a carboxy-terminal WD-repeat domain that is required for interactions with the mitochondrial protein cytochrome C. This domain is found also in mammalian APAF-1 but not in nematode CED4.
