A human B-lymphoblastoid cell line established from a Burkitt lymphoma of a 16 year old male patient. The cells display a strong surface accumulation of IgM heavy and kappa light chains (Klein et al, 1998). Daudi cells contain EBV and constitutively express low levels of EBV-derived transcripts (Gao Y et al, 1997).
The cells express the receptor for the IgG-Fc fragment and complement receptors on their cell surface but do not express HLA antigens as surface markers. DAUDI cells do not synthesize Beta-2-Microglobulin (Rosa et al, 1983; Browning et al, 1995) and lack the cell surface histocompatibility antigens, although folding and function of class I HLA molecules can be achieved in the absence of Beta-2-Microglobulin (Martayan et al, 2009).
