The acronym DN stands for "double-negative". This refers to a population of immature T-cells (thymocytes) that do not express the CD antigens CD4 or CD8. In the course of further differentiation these cells give rise to cells with the phenotype CD25(-) CD44(-), CD8(+) CD4(+). These cells are called also pre-double-positive cells (abbr. pre-DP cells) (Lind et al, 2001).
