[Decoy receptor-3]. The gene for this soluble receptor (300 amino acids; 35 kDa) with homology to the TNF receptor protein superfamily has been isolated from a human fetal lung cDNA library (Pitti et al, 1998). The protein has been shown to bind to FAS ligand and to inhibit cell death by apoptosis induced by this ligand. The protein is a soluble receptor and acts as a secreted receptor that modulates the function of FAS ligand. Pitti et al (1998) have reported that the gene encoding DcR-3 gene is amplified and expressed in many primary lung and colon tumors. Expression of a decoy receptor may be one way to escape cell death by preventing FAS ligand
