HSIF

[Heat shock induced factor] This protein of 45 kDa is found in the conditioned medium of bovine MDBK cells during their recovery period after a heat shock. HSIF appears to be an atypical bovine interferon (see: IFN) induced in response to heat shock. The protein is acid-sensitive as IFN-gamma and temperature labile, unlike bovine IFN-alpha, IFN-beta and IFN-gamma.

HSIF induces 2',5'-oligoadenylate synthetase activity and an antiviral state.
