[Ia inducing factor; Ia induction factor] This biochemically uncharacterized factor of approximately 50 kDa described by Justement et al (1989) is produced by activated lymphoma cells (A20.1 B-cell lymphoma) following cross-linking of membrane IgG2a or IgD. It induces the expression of major histocompatibility class 2 (Ia) cell surface antigens on resting B-cells. The activity found in the conditioned medium of the lymphoma cells is not mimicked by stimulation with IL1, IL3, IL5, or IL6 either singly or in combination.
