[Lugaro cell]
Lugaro cells (Lugaro neurons; neurons of Lugaro) have a fusiform cell body with thick, horizontally oriented dendrites. These cells are interneurons found in the large granular layer of the cerebellum. They are located in or slightly below the Purkinje cell layer. Lugaro cells form numerous contacts with Purkinje cells Golgi cells, granular cells, basket neurons, parallel and mossy fibers and brush cells. Lugaro cells constitute a distinct cell type in the cerebellar cortex. Sahin and Hockfield (1990) have generated monoclonal antibodies that recognize Lugaro cells but not Golgi cells or
