[brush cell]
These cells (not to be confused with unipolar brush cells, which are neurons) are characterized by a brush of rigid apical microvilli with long rootlets. They are found in the digestive tract and respiratory tract (see also: alveolar brush cells). They are most likely the same cells that have been described independently as S-Cells and agranular light cells. The cells are identical with tuft cells. It has been suggested that some of these cells represent one of several prinicipal and minor lineages of epithelial cells
