[mast cell activation-related chemokine] MARC has been identified in a cDNA library of the stimulated mouse cell line, CPII (mast cells) (Ku;mburg et al, 1992). It is strongly upregulated at the mRNA level after the physiological challenge of the cells with immunoglobulin IgE plus antigen. Unstimulated cells and a number of other, different cell lines (uninduced and induced) and mouse tissues do not express the protein. MARC has been suggested to be involved in certain acute and chronic pathological diseases involving dysfunctions of mast cells.
