The Drosophila melanogaster Meltrin gene (CG7649; referred to also as Neu3) encodes a protein that is a member of the ADAM protein family of metalloproteinases. Meltrin is thought to be a homolog of mammalian ADAM12. Meltrin occurs in at least two splice variants. Meltrin is expressed in intermediate neuroblasts and is thought to have a function in the development but not in the physiologgy of the embryonic nervous system (Meyer et al, 2010).
