Neuropoietins

A generic name for factors known also as Neuropoietic cytokines or neurokines that regulate cell numbers in the nervous system and influence functional activities of neurons, for example, by determining the type of neurotransmitter used by certain neurons. Neuropoietins thus are important mediators within the Neuroimmune network and play a role in the control of neuronal, glial and immune responses to injury or disease.
