OPG

[Osteoprotegerin] OPG was identified by sequence homology comparisons during a sequencing project involving screening of a fetal rat intestine cDNA library. OPG belongs to the superfamily of TNF receptor-like proteins (see also: gene family), having a strong similarity with the type 2 TNF receptor and CD40 and has been described as TR1 (TNF receptor-like-1). OPG is identical also with FDCR-1. Based on homology with other members of the TNF receptor protein superfamily the protein is known also as TNFRSF11B [TNF receptor superfamily member 11B].
