PADGEM

[platelet activation dependent granule-external membrane protein] This platelet integral membrane protein, termed PADGEM by Berman et al (1986), is expressed internally in resting platelets but is exposed on activated platelets) (Hsu-Lin et al, 1984). PADGEM protein codistributes with platelet factor-4 and localizes to platelet alpha granules of resting platelets and is incorporated into the plasma membrane upon activation and secretion (Berman et al, 1986). PADGEM protein is identical to the S12 antigen, recognized by the S12 monoclonal antibody (McEver and Martin, 1984), and is identical with GMP-140.
