[Placenta-specific protein 9] PLAC9 has been identified as a cDNA highly enriched in the placenta (Galaviz-Hernandez et al, 2003). The expression pattern of PLAC9 in the human embryo implicates it in embryonic development although the exact biological function is not known (Yi et al, 2010). Ouyang C et al (2018) have reported that PLAC9 is localized to the cytoplasm and may be secreted through the classic endoplasmic reticulum-Golgi route. PLAC9 appears to play a role in regulating cell growth as overexpression of PLAC9 in fetal liver cells inhibits cell growth and induces G2/M phase cell cycle arrest.
