Paracrine growth-stimulatory factor |
LFGLIPSLIGGLVSAFK |
||
A mechanism of growth control involving the synthesis of a soluble factor by one cell which then influences the growth and functional activities of near-by cells expressing the receptor for this factor. This mechanism of local growth control therefore differs from that mediated by endocrine factors involving the transport of a factor to the site of action by the circulation (endocrine actions of hormones). The term paracrines has been used in a generic sense to refer to such factors that act locally.
