Rhodostomin

Rhodostomin is a protein of 68 amino acids isolated from the venom of Agkistrodon rhodostoma (called also Calloselasma rhodostoma). The protein has six pairs of disulfide bonds and an RGD sequence. The rhdostomin sequence is found at the carboxyterminal end of a much larger precursor (Au et al, 1993). Rhodostomin belongs to the family of disintegrin proteins. It is one of the strongest antagonists to platelet aggregation among the disintegrins (Chang et al, 1997) and inhibits aggregation by blocking the binding of fibrinogen to the integrin-alpha-2b / integrin-beta-3 of platelets.
