This peptide (LSLITRL) has been identified in a phage display library screening project by Su et al (2005).
S7 peptide selectively binds to IL6 receptor-alpha chain and to soluble IL6 receptors. It broadly inhibits IL6 mediated events by dose-dependently blocking the interaction between IL6 and its receptor. S7 peptide sensitizes cervical cancer cells to chemotherapeutic compounds in vitro and substantially inhibits IL6 induced VEGF expression and angiogenesis in different cancer cell lines. The peptide also significantly suppresses the growth of cervical tumors transplanted in SCID mice.
