THGF

[thymocyte growth factor] This biochemically uncharacterized factor of 20 kDa is purified from the conditioned medium of a thymic T-lymphocyte-precursor cell line (TC.SC-1/2.0) (Talaev et al, 1991). It stimulates the growth of unstimulated splenocytes and thymocytes. While suboptimal doses of mitogen or phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate (see also: Phorbol esters) do not enhance the response THGF stimulates the growth of thymocytes synergistically with IL2. THGF also stimulates the formation of hematopoietic spleen colonies in irradiated mice.
