TIS genes

[tetradecanoyl phorbol acetate-inducible sequences; TPA-inducible sequences] TIS genes represent a family of immediate-early response genes identified originally as transcripts induced rapidly by 12-O-tetradecanoyl-phorbol-13-acetate in murine 3T3 fibroblasts (Tippetts et al, 1988; Altin et al, 1991; Cicatiello et al, 1993; Lim et al, 1987; Varnum et al, 1989). More than 50 of these genes have been described. They are inducible in response of a variety of cytokines in a variety of cell types and some of them have been reported also to be expressed in response to treatment of cells with heavy metals (Epner and Herschman, 1991) and hypoxia (Gubits et al, 1993).
