UL82

[Cytomegalovirus UL82 protein]; abbr. CMV UL82 protein; HCMV UL82 protein. This protein is encoded in the genome of human cytomegalovirus (HCMV). It is known also as pp71 [Cytomegalovirus phosphoprotein 71] UL82 is able to enhance the infectivity of viral DNA and to accelerate the infection cycle, suggesting an important regulatory function during viral replication. Human Daxx, an adaptor protein involved in the regulation of cell death by apoptosis that also functions as a transcriptional coactivator, has been shown to interact specifically with UL82 and to enhance transcriptional transactivation mediated by UL82.
