[Wnt family member 2; wingless-type MMTV integration site family member 2] Wnt-2 is one member of the so-called Wnt family of proteins (Nusse et al, 1991). The gene encoding Wnt-2 has been identified as IRP [int-1-related protein] by virtue of sequence similarity with the int-1 gene (renamed Wnt-1) (Wainwright et al, 1988). The gene is being referred to also as INT1L1 [int-1-like 1]. The mouse homolog has been cloned by Chan et al (1989).
