The gene encoding this protein has been cloned by Eib and Martens (1996) in a screen for proteins concerned with pituitary secretion in Xenopus laevis. The murine counterpart, designated M7365, encodes Tomoregulin-1.

The protein contains two follistatin modules that might bind TGF-beta related growth factors, and a single EGF-like domain closely related to EGF and Neuregulin family of growth factors.
