[adipofibroblast]
This term has been used to describe adipocytes that have lost their characteristic, lipid-filled morphology during culture in vitro. These cells have the appearance of fibroblasts and are thought to be dedifferentiated adipocytes (Adebonojo, 1975; Vierck et al, 1996). The term adipoblasts has been used also to desribe these cells.
The term adipofibroblasts may refer also to pre-adipocytes, the undifferentiated precursor cells of mature adipocytes, which also have a morphology resembling fibroblasts (Gregoire et al, 1998).
