[casomorphin peptide, casomorphin peptides]
This term has been used as a generic term for peptides derived from milk proteins, in particular casein, that can affect nutrient uptake, postprandial hormone secretion and also immune defense (Schlimme and Meisel, 1995) and thus may play a role as food hormones. Some casomorphins possess morphine-like activity and are active on opiate receptors (see: exorphins). See: beta-casomorphins.
See also cryptides for bioactive fragments of parent proteins. For other proteins (or fragments thereof) with at least one additional activity that differs from the established 'classical' activity of the parent protein see also: Dual identity proteins and Cryptides MiniCOPE Dictionary.
