[delta-like-1; Drosophila delta homolog 1; also: delta-like ligand-1] Murine dll1 is thought to represent the homolog of Drosophila melanogaster Delta (Bettenhausen et al, 1995). dll1 is expressed in epithelial ducts of several organs, skeletal and smooth muscles, the central nervous system, as well as some sensory epithelia (Beckers et al, 1999). The human homolog has been cloned and designated delta-1 (Gray et al, 1999). dll1 is expressed transiently during gastrulation and early organogenesis, and in a tissue restricted manner (lung and heart) in adult animals.
