This tumor-associated cell surface glycoprotein is recognized by antibodies BT14 and L101. It is not identical with the signal transducing receptor gp130.
In normal skin, gp130 is expressed constitutively on dermal blood vessels and epidermal appendages, but not in interfollicular epidermis. Its expression is elevated in viral warts, basal cell carcinomas, squamous cell carcinomas, metastatic melanomas, and cutaneous T-cell lymphomas and, generally in malignantly transformed cells. gp130 expression is induced also in inflammatory skin diseases including psoriasis and allergic contact dermatitis.
