This term has multiple meanings:

aberrant erythrocytes with shapes that differ from normal erythrocytes (see also: discocytes). These cells are subgrouped under the more general term spiculated erythrocytes, having one or rarely two notches. They are a variant of helmet cells (Ward, 1979).
Keratocytes have been observed in neonatal blood (Ruef and Linderkamp, 1999) and some anemias (Ward, 1979). Bunyaratvej et al (1985) have reported reduced numbers of normally shaped erythrocytes (see: discocytes
