Called also bridge cells by some histologists. The terms leptocytes and target cells may also be used to describe these cells.
The term knizocyte describes a specific shape form of erythrocytes that deviates from the standard form (see also: discocytes). These cells have two concavities instead of the one seen with normal erythrocytes. Like normal red blood cells, knizocytes show a clear central area, but this is crossed by a thin strip of hemoglobin.
