[necrapoptotic]
like aponecrosis, necrapoptosis is a form of cell death characterized by the simultaneous occurrence of apoptosis and necrosis. For a related term see also: necroptosis.
The term necrapoptosis emphasizes a shared pathways leading to both forms of cell death (Lemasters, 1999; Lemasters et al, 1999; Jaeschke and Lemasters, 2003; Kim et al, 2003). Necrapoptosis, like apoptosis, involves a phenomenon called the mitochondrial permeability transition (see also: permeability transition pore), which causes mitochondrial depolarization and uncoupling of oxidative phosphorylation.
