nemosis

This term has been suggested by Kankuri et al (2005) for a type of programmed cell death described originally as programmed necrosis (Bizik et al, 2004).

Nemosis is a type of non-apoptotic cell death with necrotic morphology observed in fibroblasts. This endogenous non-apoptotic death program shows typical morphologic features of necrosis, is not associated with the activation of molecules related to apoptosis, and is triggered within dermal fibroblasts by direct homotypic cell-cell interactions.
