abbr. frequently MCT [Mast cell tryptase] Tryptase is the major protein component of the secretory granules of human mast cells and can make up approximately 25 % of cell protein (Schwartz et al, 1981, 1981). The enzyme is secreted by mast cells upon cell activation and degranulation. Miller et al (1989) have cloned a human cDNA but gene analysis shows the existence of multiple tryptases encoded by non-allelic genes (Vanderslice et al, 1990; Pallaoro et al, 1999; Caughey et al, 2000).
