A431 cells have been used for a variety of studies in cell biology. The cells grow into colonies when cultivated in soft agar (see also: Colony formation assay) or on lawns of human fibroblasts (see also: Feeder cells) and develop into subcutaneous tumors following subcutaneous injection into mice treated with antisera against thymocytes.
