[atypical chemokine receptor 1] This is the approved gene symbol for the CD antigen CD234. For nomenclature see also: Bachelerie et al (2013).
This receptor is an example of an atypical chemokine receptor, characterized by an inability to mount classical receptor signaling following ligand binding. ACKR1 acts as a decoy receptor that removes circulating chemokines from the circulation and thus controls the bioavailability of these chemokines and influences immune responses and inflammation. The receptor is known to bind CCL2, CCL5, CCL7, CCL11, CCL13, CCL14, CCL17
