Also referred to as 12E7, named after a monoclonal antibody raised against human leukemia T-cells that detects this surface antigen. This antibody detects the cell surface antigen CD99. The CD99 antigen is not found on rodent cells and is used, therefore, in studies of human-rodent somatic cell hybrids. The CD99 antigen has been described also as MIC2 (MIC2X, MIC2Y), and E2 antigen. Other designations: CD99R, O13, hec2. CD99 is identical also with HBA-71 (Bernard et al, 1997). CD99 epitopes are recognized by monoclonal antibodies D44,
